| September 16, 2008 Red Chris Federal Court Ruling Appealed | |
| Vancouver, BC -- September 16, 2008 -- Imperial Metals Corporation (TSX:III) reports that MiningWatch Canada has filed an application with the Supreme Court of Canada seeking leave to appeal the decision of the Federal Court of Appeal issued on June 13, 2008 confirming the validity of the federal environmental assessment of the Red Chris Mining Project under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act ("CEAA"). See Imperial Metals news release of June 16, 2008. The respondents to the leave application include the Attorney General of Canada and Red Chris Development Company Ltd. Red Chris Development Company Ltd. will oppose the MiningWatch application and expects that the Attorney General will oppose as well. It will take some months before the Supreme Court of Canada issues a procedural ruling as to whether or not it will grant, or deny the application of MiningWatch to proceed with an appeal. This is the second time that an environmental group has sought leave to appeal a decision by the Federal Court of Appeal that upholds the right of responsible Federal Authorities to make project review scoping decisions under CEAA. In the previous case, known as True North, the Supreme Court of Canada denied leave to appeal. --- Contact: Brian Kynoch, President 604.669.8959 or Sabine Goetz, Investor Relations 604.488.2657 // website: www.imperialmetals.com // email: info@imperialmetals.com | |
